The Togo striker had put Spurs ahead at the Emirates Stadium, but soon turned from hero to villain as he received his marching orders for a dangerous challenge on Santi Cazorla.

The Gunners went on to fire five goals past Hugo Lloris, while Gareth Bale managed a second for the visitors in between the onslaught, taking Wenger's men to sixth in the standings.

"Tottenham had a good start, we were a bit nervous and scored one goal when we made an adjustment mistake at the back, and a chance for a second goal," the Frenchman told his club's official website.

"It looked like last season's game, but then there was the turning point with the sending off of Adebayor."

When asked about the impact of the red card, he added: "It certainly changed the game because Adebayor had a good start, he was lively.

"What I made of it was: it was not rose, it was not yellow, it was a red. I didn't think at all when he was sent off that the game was won."
