The Gunners produced a sensational final day performance to clinch a 3-2 victory over West Brom, earning the north London club their place in next season's elite European club cup competition.
Wenger's men did not make it easy for themselves, though, as they at one stage trailed the Baggies 2-1, while third-placed rivals Tottenham cruising to victory over Fulham.
However, the Arsenal finally managed to turn the screw, with Andre Santos firing in the equaliser before Laurent Koscielny flicked home the goal that guaranteed the club a place in next season's Champions League.
Had Wenger's side lost the encounter they would have finished the season in fourth, which might not be enough to earn a place in Europe as a win for Chelsea in the final against Bayern Munich next weekend would see the Blues snatch a place in the tournament at the expense of the Premier League's fourth place finisher.
"It is good to sleep better at night," the Frenchman told Arsenal Player. "It is a tricky position in fourth because you don't want Chelsea to win the Champions League.
"And to be fourth is playing a qualifier, which every year is more difficult. Therefore just to be in the group stage straight away is fantastic."
The turn-around at the Hawthorns is something the Gunners faithful have seen many times this season, with the club holding the record for earning the most points from a losing position this season, at 24.
"It is true that we had problems getting over the line but we were not the only ones. The players have given a lot, I must say," Wenger added.
"I looked at the players who were out and you see we had no Arteta, no Sagna and all the others who were out but we still managed to win away from home. That is down to remarkable character and I am very proud of the achievement of the team.
"I maybe take the biggest ever [satisfaction from this season] because at some stage of the season everybody would have said you were absolutely mad. We still kept our focus and worked hard together and in the end it is a good present to give (former assistant coach) Pat Rice."
