According to Bayern's official website, the 28-year-old informed national team coach Joachim Low on Sunday of his unavailability for the Les Blues clash due to an ankle injury suffered against Mainz.

However, he is expected to return to action for the Bavarians on Saturday against Schalke having taken three days off training to recover.

Meanwhile, Bayern skipper Philipp Lahm has looked to cool chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's bravado following the Bundesliga leaders' emphatic 3-0 win at Coface Arena.

"We've only played three games of the second-half of the season," said the 29-year-old. "It's just a momentary situation."

However, victory over the O-Fives left Jupp Heynckes's men 12 points clear at the summit, with a run of 16 wins in 20 league matches this season and just seven goals conceded.

Mario Mandzukic, whose brace in Bayern's recent triumph took him top of the goalscoring charts, added: "We're doing what we did during the first-half of the season, which is playing as a team.

"The important thing is that we're always there for one another."
