Heynckes: Happy with win

Outgoing Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes found more reasons to be pleased this past weekend following their 2-0 away victory over Stuttgart.

Speculation surrounding the eventual appointment of Pep Guardiola took matters inevitably off the pitch during the festive break, with Heynckes previously complaining about the timing of the announcement.

The Bavarians had since made hard work of a sluggish 2-0 win over Greuther Furth in last week's top-flight match.

But Sunday's victory finally gave Heynckes reasons to be satisfied, and feels his team showed a marked improvement in their performance to the game against Furth.

Two second-half goals from Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic were enough to see Bayern take their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to 11 points.

Speaking after the game, Heynckes said: "We were significantly better than against Furth. My team were very composed for the entire 90 minutes and totally focused right from the first whistle.

"Our shape and organisation were excellent, our movement was tactically very good and we afforded Stuttgart almost nothing in attack. But in the first-half, we just lacked a little flair, determination and urgency."

Heynckes did reveal, however, that a fiery team-talk was needed in order for Munich to improve in the second-half.

"We failed to find the final pass, cross or shot at goal," he said. "I complained about that at half-time and we were much better in the second period.

"Stuttgart pulled everyone back so it was never easy, but that's when you have to raise your game, which is what we did in the second-half. Ultimately, you force your opponents into errors."

The Bavarians have now taken their unbeaten streak to an impressive 15 games in all competitions, with their last defeat occurring back in October in a 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
