The Italian has been unable to work his way into the Red Devils first-team, despite being the Under-21 side's top scorer this season.
Stuttgart director of sport Fredi Bobic has been keen to sign the fleet-footed forward, and the two clubs have now come to an agreement.
"We have been watching him for a while now," Bobic said recently. "He is one of the players we have on our shortlist."
Speaking of the move to Germany, Macheda said: "I have followed the Bundesliga and naturally know about Stuttgart. I am glad that I can now play for the club.
"For me, it is about getting to know the team and what I can bring, because we have a lot of interesting games in three different competitions in front of us."
