Badstuber has been ruled out for six months having torn his cruciate knee ligaments in Bayern's 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night.
Schweinsteiger has boldy declared that the Germany international is amongst the best defenders in the world and has insisted he will be sorely missed.
"Holger's injury is massively disappointing. He's a very important player for us and still very young, and he's only recently returned from a thigh injury," he told the official Bundesliga website.
"I think he's one of the best defenders around."
The 28-year-old midfielder went on to discuss his side's UEFA Champions League ambitions ahead of their midweek fixture against BATE Borisov.
"We reached the final twice in the last three years and hope to go far this season, too," said Schweinsteiger.
"And we will be among the contenders as long as we're left to do our job. I know first hand about the huge potential within our team."
