Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez insists the Bavarians can ill-afford to lose focus if they hope to be crowned the best in Germany.

With 11 wins from 13 matches thus far, Bayern tower over the rest of their domestic foes and hold a nine-point lead over Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, who are second.

But the fact that Jupp Heynckes's side have failed to win any significant silverware since 2010, and lost to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final last term, plagues the German giants.

Gomez has recognised that worrying situation, going as far as to say finishing the 2012/13 campaign at the top of pile is a must.

"The important thing is that we continue our run through to Christmas and don't let up," he recently told the media.

"We've won nothing for two seasons, so we have to win the league. We're on track, provided we keep it up.

"We were on track last year as well, only to veer off course. That mustn't happen this season."
