The former LA Galaxy star started in midfield for the Ligue 1 leaders, after making his first appearance for the club from the substitutes' bench in the league game against Les Phocéens on Sunday.

And coach Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with the way the former England captain went about his business, praising his tactical choices in a less familiar central midfield role.

"He had a solid game and he showed he could last," Ancelotti told L'Equipe. "His passing was good, as was his positioning, and he complemented Blaise Matuidi well in midfield. He showed he can play."

"There are a lot of things he can show us - his experience, his passing, his aggression. I don't think he played like a 37-year-old tonight."

Beckham himself was pleased with the contribution he made in the Classique victory, having appeared now in France's famous derby for the second time in a week.

"I was just very happy to play tonight and to help set up goals for others," he said. "I had a slight hand in the second goal on Sunday and again here so I'm happy.

"I came here knowing that I wouldn't be in the team from the word go. We have a good team and I want to add something to it. If that means starting then great, and if it means being on the bench then great."

The Englishman also felt his fitness levels are improving every day, and was happy to play an important part in his 86 minutes on the field on Wednesday.

''I enjoyed it,'' he continued. ''I felt good. I have been working hard for the last few weeks. It helps to have players around me who work the way they do and play the way they do.''

The former Manchester United man also had time to comment on PSG's upcoming Champions League last-16 return leg against Valencia, admitting he use to miss those special European nights while plying his trade in the MLS.

"I played in some big games in the USA but you always miss being involved in big games like this in Europe," he added.

"It is a while since I played in the Champions League so I am excited. It is a big game for the club but it doesn't mean that it will be easy."
