Ancelotti's men were two goals to the good with only added-time left in the match, and appeared to be on their way to a commanding lead in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

But Adil Rami chipped in with a crucial goal for Los Che at the death to leave the contest delicately poised ahead of the return fixture in Paris on March 6.

The drama was not yet over as Ibrahimovic was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Andres Guardado, which rules out the Swede next time out.

Ancelotti was unhappy with the referee's decision to dismiss Ibrahimovic for what he believed was a perfectly legitimate tackle.

"We conceded a goal and we took a red card. We didn't deserve this because it was a normal tackle," he said.

"We are really disappointed because the rest of the day was really good, we played really well and were focused on the game. For that we have to be happy, but the end of the game was not good for us.

"Valencia is a good team. We have to know that we have just played the first half of this game and we have to play the second half at home. I think that will be better for us, but we have to pay attention."
