Much was expected of Lugano following his arrival in the French capital from Fenerbahce in August 2011.

But after making sporadic appearances under former PSG coach Antoine Kombouare and his replacement Carlo Ancelotti, the Uruguay international has been left with no choice but to call time on his career in France.

The 32-year-old centre-back has yet to feature for Ancelotti this season and was omitted from the Italian's UEFA Champions League squad.

"The truth is that this year has been the hardest of my career," Lugano told Uruguayan newspaper El Pais.

"France is finished. I've still got a year-and-a-half on my PSG contract, but we've decided the best thing is to find a way out. In the next 15 days at most I should have my new destination.

"The sporting circumstances mean I have to leave Paris. It's not what I wanted, nor was it planned, but the situation leaves me no option."

Nene, meanwhile, is also expected to leave the Parc des Princes in the New Year after falling behind Jeremy Menez and Javier Pastore in the pecking order at PSG.

The Brazilian winger claims to have received offers from clubs back in his homeland after revealing that Les Parisiens are willing to let him go.

He told Brazilian newspaper Terra: "I've talked to [PSG sporting director] Leonardo and he is willing to let me go, but until we reach an agreement, I have to go to training.

"I hope to find a solution next week. If I go to a Brazilian team, PSG will let me go without a problem. I've had offers from Brazil, notably from clubs in Sao Paulo."
