Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura believes they weren't as effervescent in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Valencia as they have been this season.

Ever Banega and Lionel Messi were on target as Los Che played out for a share of the spoils with league leaders Barca at the Mestalla.

The hosts were in front courtesy of Banega's 33rd-minute opener, only for Messi to equalise from the penalty spot following a foul on Pedro Joao Pereira.

The weekend's result left the Blaugrana on 59 points at the La Liga summit, with Roura of the opinion that the front-runners need time to rejuvenate.

"Their intensity made it difficult for us to play our game and it was hard for us to get close to their area," he said. "Perhaps we didn't create a lot of chances and we weren't as fresh as we have been in the past.

"We came here with the intention of winning the three points but it's always difficult to win at Valencia. I think the draw, in general terms, is fair.

"We're coming off a very tough match away to Madrid and that, from a physical standpoint, always wears you down."
