Falcao will undergo further assessment on Monday, but is expected to be out for "around 20 days", Madrid coach Diego Simeone has confirmed.

The striker, who had recently been voted into FIFpro's world XI team for 2012 at the FIFA Ballon D'Or banquet last month, will definitely miss Thursday's Copa del Rey quarter-final match against Real Betis.

He is also likely to miss the next two La Liga games against Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis.

"We don't know exactly what he has, but he is hurt," Simeone said. "He will rest and that will serve him well. Falcao will be a great reinforcement for us when he comes back."

Falcao has scored 18 goals in the Primera Division so far this season, helping Los Colchoneros move seven points above bitter rivals Real Madrid, and eight points behind leaders Barcelona.
