The Turkey international, who helped steer Dortmund to a Bundesliga title in 2010/11, has parted ways with the Reds after 12 appearances.

He made the move to Anfield at the beginning of the 2012/13 campaign in a bid to recapture the form which initially earned him a move to Madrid.

The 24-year-old is now hoping to play a part in the Borussians' efforts to retain their league crown this term, although emphasised that he isn't looking to step on any toes to do so.

"I am delighted to be back home," Sahin said, who passed his medical in the Westphalian city on Friday.

"My contact with the bosses, the players and the coaching team of Dortmund has never broken down over these last 18 months.

"I hope that I can help the team as soon as possible."

He added: "I've not come to steal somebody's place.

"I know things have changed in the 18 months I have been away, but I am here to make my own contribution to Dortmund's future success."
