Los Blancos are in third position in the standings, trailing league leaders Barcelona by a hefty 16 points after 17 rounds of action.

The home side will be without defender Pepe and play-maker Mesut Ozil, who are both suspended for this encounter.

Coach Jose Mourinho will also not be on the touchline - he was sent off along with Pepe and Ozil in Madrid's 1-1 draw with Villarreal.

Sergio Ramos, however, was handed a reprieve - his red card being reduced to a yellow on Friday.

Ricardo Carvalho is yet to overcome a thigh problem, and will likely remain side-lined. Angel Di Maria is in the same category, also battling with a thigh strain.

Real Sociedad, who are currently in seventh position on the La Liga table, go into this match having lost 3-1 at home to Levante on Wednesday.

Gorka Elustondo was sent for an early shower in that game and will miss the clash with Real, as well as the injured duo of Carlos Martinez and Markel Bergara.

Dani Estrada accumulated a fifth yellow card in midweek and is also out for this weekend's match.
