Both teams started brightly and it was the visitors who came closest to opening the scoring, as Radamel Falcao struck the post with a header.

However, they didn't have to wait long to break the deadlock, and it was Falcao again who eluded the Barca defence and coolly slotted home with a left foot finish after 31 minutes.

The goal rocked the Nou Camp but only sparked the Catalans into life and it was Adriano who levelled the scores with a fierce left foot shot.

The goal certainly lifted the Blaugrana and it didn't take long for them to grab the lead with Sergio Busquets firing home just before half-time.

The hosts started the second stanza extremely brightly and it was Lionel Messi, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, who extended his side's lead with a wonderful left foot shot that left Thibaut Courtois with no chance on the hour mark.

They then proceeded to dominate possession and it was that man Messi who rounded off the scoring, firing home from inside the penalty box to seal all three points.

The victory means Barca have now won 15 of their 16 league games this season and will have left Atletico boss Diego Simeone with plenty to ponder as he continues to transform his side.
