Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas would not think twice about abandoning the La Liga title race if it meant winning the coveted UEFA Champions League.

The defending Spanish champions trail arch-rivals Barcelona by 11 points at the league summit after 15 games.

Jose Mourinho's side are still in with a shout of lifting the European Cup for a 10th time after they progressed to the competition's knockout phase as runners-up in Group D behind Borussia Dortmund.

When asked which trophy he preferred to take home at the end of the current campaign, Casillas told Spanish TV station La Sexta: "La Decima.

"I do not have to think about it. If you told me know that we would finish 25 points behind Barcelona in La Liga that is obviously not ideal as the domestic competition is very important.

"But if you tell me that we are going to win La Decima, I would sign for that right now."

Los Merengues have the chance to close the gap at the top of the standings on Sunday evening when they welcome Espanyol to the Bernabeu.

Barca entertain second-placed Atletico Madrid earlier in the day, and Real goalkeeper Casillas will be hoping to capitalise on any dropped points by Tito Vilanova's high-flyers.

"Logically I would like that they both lose the game as they are ahead of us in the table, but that is not possible," he said. "Therefore, in my own interest, what would be best is that Barca loses points, as they are the leader."
