The home side had the better of the opening stages, as Salva Sevilla went close, but it didn't take long for the Blaugrana to hit their stride and it was Lionel Messi who opened the scoring on 16 minutes, firing home from inside the box following good work from Andres Iniesta.

Barca then firmly took control of proceedings and quickly doubled their lead, with Messi once again converting after yet more good work from Iniesta on 28 minutes.

Tito Vilanova's men continued to push for more, but it was Betis who struck next, as striker Ruben Castro fired home past Victor Valdes to send the teams in at 2-1 at the break.

The goal seemed to inspire Los Beticos with Sevilla once again narrowly missing, before Jorge Molina saw two efforts in blocked in quick succession.

The home side continued to push but couldn't find a goal as Barcelona defended stubbornly to hold on to a hard fought three points.

The victory sees Barca retain their six point lead at the top of the table while Betis' performance will surely only give them extra confidence as they continue their quest for a European place.
