The home side made a spectacular start to the match, as striker Manucho opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a right footed strike, following strong work from Alvaro Rubio.

It didn't take Los Blancos long to get back into the game, though, as Karim Benzema equalised four minutes later, but it was Valladolid who struck next with Manucho again taking advantage of some slack defending to head his side into the lead.

The Angolan striker continued to torment the champions, but his team couldn't press their advantage home and Madrid drew level on the stroke of half-time thanks to Mesut Ozil.

Both teams continued to play attacking football in the second-half, with Real going closest to taking the lead as Sergio Ramos's strike was controversially ruled out for offside.

However, they did eventually go ahead and it was Ozil again who made the difference, with a majestic free-kick from the edge of the area that cannoned in off the bar.

Real than proceeded to control the game, regularly threatening the opposition goal and although they failed to find the net again, they held on for victory.

The win means the champions are still hot on the heels of their rivals and it will be interesting to see how Barcelona respond during their tricky visit to Real Betis.
