The former Italian Prime Minister admits the Rossoneri are considering replacing struggling coach Massimiliano Allegri, with Guardiola the Serie A giants' preferred choice.

Media mogul Berlusconi has been open about his admiration for the former Barcelona boss, but he believes it is Premier League title holders City that lead the race for the man who has been accredited with revolutionising the Catalan club.

"Guardiola? Who wouldn't want him? We have even spoken about it with Allegri," Berlusconi told ESPN.

"If [appointing Guardiola] was possible we would look into it. Anyone would try to do so if they were presented with such an opportunity. For now we have Allegri. [But] for the future we are having a look.

"There are some English clubs after Guardiola, especially [Manchester] City who have directors that we know very well. We will try to sign him, but it's going to be difficult."

Chelsea, who recently appointed Rafael Benitez as their interim coach, have also been credited with a potential deal for Guardiola next year, while current City manager Roberto Mancini has shrugged off reports claiming his days at Eastlands are numbered.
