Real Madrid extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to five games with an emphatic win over Real Zaragoza on Saturday evening.
Jose Mourinho's side move into third place in the Spanish top flight thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria, Michael Essien and Luka Modric.
The reigning champions made a bright start at the Santiago Bernabeu and Cristiano Ronaldo should have headed them ahead twice in the opening stages.
Zaragoza almost took a surprise lead when Helder Postiga forced a spectacular save out of Iker Casillas but Madrid took the lead moments later when goalkeeper Roberto spilled Alvaro Areloa's header and Higuain buried the chance from two yards out.
Madrid doubled their lead just two minutes later when Di Maria scored at the second attempt after seeing an initial shot saved by Roberto.
Ronaldo was denied again late on, this time by the woodwork from a curling free-kick, but Essien made sure Madrid increased the lead on the 89th minute with a smart finish from a quick counter attack.
Modrid put the final nail in the coffin in injury time from the edge of the box after Roberto pulled off a double save from Ronaldo, sealing Mourinho's 100th win in charge at the Bernabeu.
The win moves Madrid into third in La Liga, eight points behind leaders Barcelona who beat Celta Vigo 3-1.
