The Brazil international, who has been previously linked to reigning UEFA Champions' League holders Chelsea, was the subject of a reported €15million move to the Nerazzuri recently.

However, Paulinho has made it clear that he cannot make his decision based on money alone, and feels the time is not right to leave his homeland.

"I made my decision, along with my family, to stay at Corinthians," he explained on Tuesday.

"The offer was good but sometimes you have to forget about the money. A good financial proposal doesn't mean you'll get to do a lot of things. There are times when you have to think about your career.

"I lead a very calm life and have all the conditions to do good work here at Corinthians and one of the reasons for me to stay was to return to the national team."

Inter were hopeful of Paulinho replacing rumoured Liverpool target Phillipe Coutinho if the deal with the Merseyside club goes through, but will now have to look elsewhere in their bid to bolster their midfield.

Inter president Massimo Moratti, though, is still hoping a deal can be arranged for Paulinho at a later stage.

He said: "That is an affair that could be easier in June than now. It is not a matter of money, but there are a lot of commitments for him in Brazil."
