Nerazzurri coach Andrea Stramaccioni was already without Wesley Sneijder, Joel Obi, Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Stankovic and McDonald Mariga in the midfield department ahead of last weekend's trip to Atalanta.
Guarin had brought his team back on level terms at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia from a free-kick early in the second half, but sustained the injury in the closing stages of the 3-2 defeat to La Dea.
The Colombia international will now sit out Sunday's Serie A visit of Cagliari, adding to Stramaccioni's injury woes, although the 26-year-old could return to action against Palermo on December 2.
A statement from Inter read: "A first-grade strain to the left thigh. That is the discovery of medical tests conducted on Fredy Guarin after he complained of a problem against Atalanta."
