Terry was out for nearly three months due to an injury and Benitez said the player has to regain fitness and then compete for a place in the starting 11, which the former England captain agrees with.

Prior to the match, reports surfaced regarding a feud between the duo, but Terry dismissed those rumours.

"It was good to get on the scoresheet and good to be back," he told ITV.

Terry scored the fourth goal after Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Oscar netted for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

"The manager knows me and I want to play. I have been out for two or three months (with a knee injury), but the other two (centre-backs) have been doing well.

"It's good to have competition.

"They made it very difficult," he added. "(They had) two banks of four and sat very deep."

Chelsea face Middlesbrough next in the FA Cup with the game scheduled to take place on February 27 at the Riverside Stadium.
