Enrique: Backs Suarez to score again

Liverpool's Jose Enrique has backed team-mate Luis Suarez to make up for his recent profligacy in front of goal when the Reds face Swansea in the Premier League at Anfield this Sunday.

Suarez has now gone three matches without finding the net, and was particularly wasteful in Thursday's 2-0 loss to Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of the last-32 Europa League tie.

The Uruguayan had a plethora of chances to score in Russia, and probably should have had a hat-trick in the first half.

His lack of sharpness was highlighted when he rounded goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev, but failed to register a shot on goal.

He had another chance to score from a Raheem Sterling cross, but his backheel effort from close range went wide of the post.

However, Enrique believes Suarez's desire to win will have him back on the scoresheet before too long.

"Luis Suarez is a winner and he likes to win every game," the Spanish full-back said.

"Of course he was really disappointed for the misses he had on Thursday but he is a key player and one of the best strikers in the world.

"Like everyone he is still a person who has mistakes and Thursday was not his day.

"But all the chances he has he makes all on his own."

Suarez is currently sitting in second in the top-flight goalscoring charts with 17, two behind Manchester United's Robin Van Persie and two ahead of Swansea's Michu.

The Reds host the Swans on Merseyside at the weekend after two successive losses for Brendan Rodgers's men in all competitions.

"It is happening to us a lot this year. We had our chances to score, like a lot of games this season," added Enrique.

"I think we are doing well. The problem is, in the last three games (including the 2-2 draw at Manchester City) we have been trying to score goals and had chances to score and then we have had mistakes.

"We have to improve in defence and in attack do what we are doing and hopefully we will have better luck."
