The Nigerian found himself in hot water with the Baggies after trying to seal a January transfer deadline day move to QPR after driving to London to speak to the R's.

However, no such move materialised and the forward has since been dealt with internally by Albion, having not played for them since January 19.

The 31-year-old was in the squad that surprised the Reds with a 2-0 scalp at Anfield on Monday, although he watched the game from the stands, but Clarke said that decision was merely tactical and was not further punishment for the player.

"It wasn't an additional punishment and he was involved, that is why he was there," he said.

"He was in the dressing room, he was delighted for his team-mates and was there to support them and help them.

"It is all part of what being part of a squad about.

"Peter makes his contribution and will make a contribution in the season going forward."
