Ferguson: Issues thinly-veiled warning

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists his side will not suffer the same fate as last season by blowing their healthy lead at the top of the standings.

The Red Devils are set to take on Everton this weekend, with the corresponding fixture last season seeing the Toffees claw their back from 4-2 down to rescue a four-all draw.

United followed up on that result with a defeat to rivals Manchester City, allowing Roberto Mancini's men to take over at the summit, and the Citizens failed to relinquish that lead as they went on to earn their first league title in 44 years.

This time round the Old Trafford outfit are even further in front, currently enjoying a nine-point advantage over the defending champions, and Ferguson is not expecting any slip-ups in the run-in to the end of the campaign.

"If I had to pick out one single match where we lost our title last season it would have to be that game against Everton," Ferguson told United Review.

"What I can say is that it won't happen again - or if it does, then put it this way, they will feel the full effect of the hairdryer."
