Lampard has been in fine form for club and country of late, despite the uncertainty regarding his future, and he scored his 28th goal for England on Wednesday night in the 2-1 win over Brazil.
The 33-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season and Chelsea's announcement that they are not prepared to offer the veteran midfielder a new contract has prompted speculation that he may consider a move abroad.
Hodgson has said that a move to a club in Europe will make it easy for him to monitor his performance, however, if he follows in the footsteps of David Beckham and moves to the MLS it may pose a problem for the former Liverpool boss.
"I hope we will keep Frank in England," Hodgson told Major League Soccer's official website. "I know he will have a lot of offers if Chelsea do decide they're prepared to let him go. I'm rather hoping we'll still see him if not in England, then Europe, which will make my task easier.
"If he goes further afield and follows David, it complicates matters. But it doesn't mean your career is over with England.
"But the further afield you go, the more problematic it gets for the media and the England manager to follow you."
