The Toure brothers returned to Manchester this week after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign where they were beaten by an unfancied Nigeria side in the quarter-finals.

Roberto Mancini will be disappointed with how the team performed in their absence. Despite City going unbeaten, draws against Queens Park Rangers and Liverpool in their last two games saw United stretch their lead at the summit of the league table to nine points.

However, after their unlikely comeback from eight points down with only six matches to play last term, the former Barcelona man believes that with 13 games left to play this season, the Citizens have enough time to chase down their rivals.

"We are further behind than we'd like, of course, but all we need to do is think about last season to know what is possible," the 29-year-old told the clubs official website.

"My friends are all here and are happy to see me and we are like a family or brothers who will all fight together - and that is a very important thing to have.

"United have a strong squad and, on paper, they have an easier run in than we do but the title race is a long way from finished. It only takes a couple of results to go our way and we're right back in it - I'm sure we'll come back."

City travel to Southampton on Saturday, with the chance to cut United's lead to six points ahead of the Red Devils' clash with Everton on Sunday.
