The clash has come under investigation by Europe's police agency, although reports claim the focus is on the Hungarian side, and more accurately goalkeeper Vukasin Poleksic, who was banned for two years in 2010 by UEFA for failing to report match-fixing activities involving a different game.

A Liverpool spokesman said: "We have had no contact from Europol or any other organisation over this the cheating claims."

The recent revelations by Europol have rocked the global footballing community, with more than 380 matches currently under investigation.

Europol chief Rob Wainwright revealed the investigation uncovered "match fixing activity on a scale we have not seen before", but would not divulge any information about any of the matches in question.

The Football Association and UEFA have both since denied being contacted by the agency over the claims.
