The hosts had much the better of the chances in the opening 45 minutes, Grant Holt coming close after good work from the impressive Robert Snodgrass before Wes Hoolahan opened the scoring on 32 minutes.

Snodgrass played a big part in the goal as his cross looped over Hugo Lloris to the back post, where Holt headed the ball into the path of Anthony Pilkington, who picked out Hoolahan and the Canaries midfielder calmly stroked the ball into the back of the net.

Spurs' best chance of the first period fell to Jermaine Defoe but he couldn't beat Mark Bunn in a one-on-one situation and Norwich took a deserved lead into the break.

The visitors started the second half brightly after a poor opening 45 minutes but Norwich nearly doubled their advantage on 50 minutes, when Russel Martin fizzed a cross across the six-yard box, which just evaded Hoolahan.

Defoe tried his luck from the edge of the area and Norwich winger Pilkington saw an effort drift wide, before Bale levelled matters with a fantastic individual effort.

The Welshman received the ball in the centre circle and raced towards goal, with the Canaries having committed men forward.

Bale managed to beat Alexander Tettey and avoided the outstretched leg of Michael Turner as he cut inside and fired a left-footed effort beyond Mark Bunn.

The visitors continued to press for a winning goal but Norwich held out and secured a deserved point in front of their own fans.
