The Reds opened the scoring just five minutes into the game as some poor defending from the home side saw a loose ball fall to Daniel Sturridge, and Wojciech Szczesny was only able to parry the striker's shot into the path of Luis Suarez, who easily swept the ball home.

Right on the hour mark the Merseysiders made it two, Jordan Henderson able to cut in between two defenders to break into the area, and although he was lucky to come out of a tussle of bodies still in possession, his finish was smartly played between defender and goalkeeper to silence the Emirates.

Five minutes later though Arsene Wenger's men halved the deficit as Jack Wilshere's curling free-kick found Olivier Giroud, who headed home his 13th goal of the season, and fifth in his last three outings.

It didn't take long for the Arsenal to level the scores with some intricate passing in and around the area finishing with a lay-off to Theo Walcott, who did really well to rifle home from a tight angle.

Both sides pressed for a winner in the closing stages, with Giroud being played in on goal only to get the ball caught up under his feet to see a golden chance go begging.

Liverpool also could have snatched the points in stoppage time as Suarez's driven ball across goal caused havoc in the defence, but Per Mertersacker was able to clear.

The result left Arsenal sixth in the standings, four points behind fourth, while Liverpool remain in seventh, three points further adrift of the Gunners.
