Goals have not been difficult to come by for the hosts as they've banged in 12 in their last four outings, including four last time out, and a win will see the Royals move clear of the drop zone, albeit only temporarily.

With regards to personnel, the Berkshire club are without striker Jason Roberts (hip) and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (shoulder), with Pavel Pobgrebnyak expected to be restored to the starting lineup after being rested at the weekend.

Chelsea have been struggling to deal with obstinate opponents of late resulting in three draws from games they probably feel they should have won.

They will look to to their previous meetings with the Royals for inspiration, having emerged victorious in six of their last seven matches against Wednesday's opponents, with the other encounter ending in a draw.

David Luiz (ankle) is a doubt for the visitors, while Oriol Romeu is a long term absentee having ruptured his ACL.

John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses are away at the African Cup of Nations and Eden Hazard is suspended following his sending-off at Swansea.

Fernando Torres could retain his place in the team after his goal against Brentford secured a fourth-round replay against the League One side.

Kick-off at the Madejski is at 22:00 (20:00 GMT)
