Villa were dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side Millwall on Saturday, just four days after their shock defeat to lowly Bradford City in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup.

To compound matters, Paul Lambert's side sit perilously close to the drop zone and currently sit in 17th place on 20 points, just one point ahead of Reading in 18th.

Weimann though, is not convinced their season is a lost cause and insists they can turn things around.

"If you don't believe (you can turn it around) there is no point playing," the Austrian International told Sky Sports. "A month or so ago we beat Liverpool and Norwich and then it turned. We have got to stick together as a team now things are not going well.

The Villans welcome fellow strugglers Newcastle United to Villa Park on Tuesday evening and can leapfrog the Magpies into 16th with a win.

"We have got to learn to hold on to leads. It is a massive game for us on Tuesday night and hopefully we can start winning from there.

"It is going to be a tight game and we need to see it through, score a goal and win the game. The fans have been outstanding and hopefully we can get a few wins mainly for them."

The Birmingham club have worst goal difference in the league and Weimann has reiterated Lambert's claims that they need to stop leaking goals if they are to maintain their place in the top-flight.

"Obviously everyone is disappointed because we started off well and got the goal but then conceded from a set-piece," he added.

"We need to get a win soon. When you can't win the game you say don't lose it, but unfortunately it was another cross that we couldn't defend and they scored."
