With a crucial match against rivals Arsenal in the top-flight on Wednesday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers may well use the trip to Oldham to rest some of his key players ahead of the clash with the Gunners.

Jonjo Shelvey and David Suso, who both featured in the third round win at Mansfield, may be recalled to the starting line-up, while Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez are expected to continue their burgeoning strike partnership to ensure some firepower for the Reds.

Reported Barcelona target Pepe Reina, however, is still a doubt with a hip injury, while Jose Enrique and Martin Kelly remain sidelined with hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

Oldham Athletic, meanwhile, go into Sunday's match on the back of three consecutive losses. The Latics will be hoping to improve on their recent home form after losing in their previous four on home soil.

James Wesolowski should return to the Oldham starting line-up following his suspension in the 1-0 loss to Notts County.

South African international Dean Furman, meanwhile, is still away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, while former West Ham United midfielder Cristian Montano may miss out with a niggling thigh injury.
