The FC Dallas midfielder will reportedly have a week-long trial at the Staffordshire club with the possibility of a move before the transfer window closes at the end of January.

This comes as no surprise to FC Dallas manager Schellas Hyndman, who believes the International transfer window provides European clubs with the chance to strengthen their squads.

"What I can say is, in the international transfer window it's not unusual for teams to be looking for help," he said.

While Hyndman did take the opportunity to praise the talent currently on display in Major League Soccer, the 61-year-old remained coy over the possible sale of his star winger.

"I think it's a sign of the league and the quality of players that we have in this league. It comes as no surprise that some of our better players are being identified. But for us today, Brek is a member of FC Dallas and I think that any other comments I make at this time would not be correct," he added.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis has acknowledged the 22-year-old's dip in form over the past couple of seasons but has given the youngster a chance to show his worth by giving him a trial at the Britannia Stadium.

The Potters boss told BBC Radio: "A year ago he was touted as the next great thing in America. I think he's fallen off the rails a little bit in some respects - I don't know why."

"I went to France last year to see him play for America. So we've got a chance to look at him - he's coming over and we'll see what we think."
