The 34-year-old is set to leave the Blues on a free at the end of the season following the expiry of his contract, with the London club not planning to offer the England international a new deal.

Lampard is currently Chelsea's second highest goalscorer with 194 goals, and boasts a tally of 12 goals in the current campaign.

Arena had been reluctant to pass comment on any possible deal, but hinted at the possibility with the departure of David Beckham leaving space for a designated foreign player.

"We wouldn't rule a move for Lampard out. It's always a possibility," the 61-year-old told reporters.

"I wouldn't be surprised if over the next week or so we're going to have some sort of decision with a designated player."
