The first half had few chances but Fulham took the lead on the 22nd minute mark thanks to a rare moment of quality. Giorgios Karagounis was given far too much room and unleashed a right-foot shot from 25 yards that rebounded into the net off the post.

Franco di Santo had half a chance for the Latics, who initially responded well to falling behind, but failed to find the target from close range. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances and neither keeper had a busy first 45 minutes.

Wigan had only managed points once from a losing position once this season before this game, against Reading, and it showed as they struggled to break through the Fulham defence.

The Cottagers just about deserved their lead at the break as the game meandered towards half-time.

Wigan started the second half the better side but had difficulty getting a look in on goal. Di Santo forced a couple of saves out of Mark Schwarzer, including one world class stop to push a wicked effort onto the post.

The equaliser came on 71 minutes, as the Cottagers defence failed to close down Di Santo, who gave Schwarzer no chance with his fantastic strike fired into the top corner.

He tried again a couple of minutes later from a tight angle but was denied by Schwarzer.

The visitors came close to a second with five minutes to go as once again Di Santo forced Schwarzer to tip a strike round the post.

Wigan suffered a blow late on as Ivan Ramis was stretchered off with a nasty knee injury but hung on, clearing a late effort from Dimitar Berbatov off the line to ensure the points were shared.
