The Italian's future at the Etihad Stadium has been clouded with speculation after a recent training ground bust-up with City manager Roberto Mancini, although this is not his altercation at the club.

The clause was believed to be inserted in Balotelli's contract when the Nerazzurri sold him to City in August 2010.

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio stated they have first refusal on the 22-year-old should the Citizens decide to sell him.

Ausilio told Italian magazine Panorama: "The first refusal right exists. We will decide whether to exercise it or not at a time when City decides to sell."

He added that the Italy international has the ability to play alongside any striker in the world, saying: "Technically, Balotelli can fit alongside any striker."
