Rodwell has made a total of six appearances for City since his move from Everton, with his last appearance coming on 6 October 2012 against Sunderland.

Despite having a torrid time with injuries during his time at the Toffees and now with the Citizens, Mancini still believes the 21-year-old can prove he was correct in his decision to sign the player.

Mancini told Sky Sports: "We hope we can improve this situation for him," Mancini said. "He is young and he has quality - he has everything to be a good midfielder.

"I worry because when we bought him we thought he was a good player and then he had these problems with hamstrings.

"He is getting better and we hope we can recover him in two or three weeks. He needs to start working with the group and he didn't do this until Thursday."

The England international was hoping to be back for the crucial Christmas period but unfortunately suffered another setback and is expected to rejoin the squad at the end of January.
