The former Chelsea and Bolton defender has been training with Rangers for the past few weeks, having departed struggling Championship side Portsmouth as a free agent in August.
His performances in training have impressed QPR boss Harry Redknapp, and with his team's defence sorely lacking in quality, Ben Haim could be offered a deal until the end of the season.
"Tal has worked hard and we will look to give him a contract until the end of the season," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "He may be added to the squad. He is keen to have a go with us."
Redknapp admitted his defence is the main area that needs bolstering, adding: "We still need to strengthen up. No doubt about that.
"The two centre-halves (Ryan Nelsen and Clint Hill) have done miracles. I think they're both 35 years of age."
