The Ulsterman, along with back-up goalkeeper Brad Jones and head of performance Glen Driscoll have returned home firstly because they are too ill, and secondly because club doctor Zaf Iqbal does not want them infecting other members of the squad.

"It was impossible for Brendan, Glen and Brad to attend the game," Iqbal told the club's official website.

"They are not fit to be at the match and any contact with the rest of the squad could cause the bug to spread to more of the playing staff."

Reds assistant manager Colin Pascoe and coach Mike Marsh will take the reins at Loftus Road.
