The Australian defender has been battling a virus for the last couple of days and it remains to be seen whether he will make the Reds clash.

Also, goalkeeper Julio Cesar is doubtful as he recovers from a back injury. Should he not make it, Robert Green will once again deputise between the sticks.

Nedum Onuoha (hamstring) and Park Ji-sung (knee) will undergo late fitness tests prior to kick-off.

Strike duo Andy Johnson (knee) and Bobby Zamora (hip) continue their rehabilitation from long-term injuries.

It remains to be seen whether QPR boss Harry Redknapp will include Jose Bosingwa in his match-day squad.

The Portuguese full-back was fined two weeks' wages and dropped for the Hoops' previous match against West Brom after refusing to take his place on the bench against Fulham a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Luis Suarez will be fit to take his place in the Reds line-up despite suffering an ankle knock in the 3-1 defeat at Stoke on Boxing Day.

However, the Ulsterman is highly unlikely to risk Lucas Leiva, who is still working his way up to full-match fitness following a lengthy long-term lay-off.

Raheem Sterling is pushing for a recall to the side having last started in the 3-1 loss to Aston Villa a fortnight ago.
