O'Shea: Back in contention

Martin O'Neill's Sunderland will be looking to build on their 1-0 victory over defending champions Manchester City when they host Tottenham on Saturday.

O'Neill is boosted by the return of defender John O'Shea, who missed the victory over the Citizens through illness.

Left-back Danny Rose is ineligible to play as he is on a season-long loan from White Hart Lane, which means Phil Bardsley is likely to deputise in his absence.

The Black Cats have won three of their last four top-flight games, a run which has lifted them up to 13th place in the league standings.

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone and forward Clint Dempsey could return to the side, while Scott Parker is pushing for his first start of the season after making a long-awaited comeback from an Achilles injury.

Meanwhile, Mousa Dembele should be fit enough, despite coming off injured with a knock against Aston Villa.

Andre Villas-Boas' men have only lost one of their last seven games, and have also kept three clean sheets in their last three fixtures.

Another positive for the boss is the fact his side are the only Premier League team to score in every away game this season, while the Black Cats have only won one of their last seven games against the London outfit.
