The Blues, who missed last week's fixtures due to their commitments at the Club World Cup, came flying out of the traps and did not have to wait long for their first goal, as a fine cross from Cesar Azpilicueta was headed superbly by Fernando Torres into the top right corner in the third minute.

The young Villa side looked shell-shocked and in the 29th minute they found themselves two goals down, when David Luiz lined up a free-kick from the edge of the box before dipping and swerving the ball past Brad Guzan.

Things only got worse for the visitors five minutes later when Gary Cahill saw his effort well saved by Guzan but the rebound fell kindly for Branislav Ivanovic, who headed the ball home.

Chelsea picked up where they left off in the second half when Frank Lampard made it 4-0 on 59 minutes, with a well-struck half-volley.

In the 75th minute, substitute Ramires got the first of his two goals. He was played through on goal, before slotting the ball between Guzan's legs.

Brazilian playmaker Oscar bagged his first ever Premier League goal on 79 minutes when he was fouled in the box by Chris Herd, before stepping up and slotting home the penalty himself.

Eden Hazard got his name on the scoresheet when he was played through and fired the ball into the top right corner. Ramires was the man who wrapped things up in stoppage time when he scored with a shot that should have been saved by Guzan, on an evening that Villa will be eager to forget.
