Manager Roberto Mancini will be hoping his captain and defensive general Vincent Kompany will pass a late fitness test.

However, Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov will not make it in time for the weekend as they recover from hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

English duo James Milner and Gareth Barry return to boost the Citizens ahead of a match they must win if they are to keep pace with leaders Manchester United, whom they trail by six points.

Reading boss Brian McDermott will have to do without the services of Jason Roberts who has a hip injury.

Jimmy Kebe (groin), Danny Guthrie (thigh) and Jem Karacan (knee) should all be back in contention but Sean Morrison won't play any part as he battles to shake off a stubborn ankle knock.

The Royals were just thrashed 5-2 this past Monday by Arsenal and now have the unenviable task of playing the champions on their home ground, hoping to avoid another beating.
