Morrison: Hit the crossbar

A cagey opening saw neither goalkeeper extended, with the Baggies restricted to long-range efforts from Peter Odemwingie and James Morrison.

Shane Long also shot wide before the Hammers wasted the best chance of the half as James Collins headed down following a corner from the left and Winston Reid lofted his effort over the crossbar from inside the six-yard area.

Carlton Cole then forced home keeper Boaz Myhill to fist away as his stinging drive arrowed goalwards from 25 yards out.

The second half started much more brightly than the first, with Albion forcing a series of corners before Gary O'Neil curled an effort inches wide of the far post at the other end.

On the hour mark Zoltan Gera's swerving effort troubled Jussi Jaaskelainen, while at the other end Joey O'Brien met Mark Noble's free-kick at the far post, but his left-foot shot flew inches over the crossbar.

Steve Clarke's side came closest with just over 15 minutes left as Morrison crashed a header against the crossbar from Chris Brunt's accurate corner delivery from the right.

Tempers frayed in the closing stages with a number of yellow cards, but neither team could find a winning goal and had to settle for a point apiece.
