Everton started well and had the first chance of the game after 10 minutes. Seamus Coleman pulled the ball back to Nikica Jelavic, whose effort was blocked by Ryan Shawcross.

Shawcross saved his side again in the 35th minute, brilliantly clearing off the line after Steven Naismith had lobbed Asmir Begovic from eight yards. However, he was left red-faced a couple of minutes later after deflecting Steven Pienaar's cross over the head of Begovic to hand Everton the lead.

The Toffees should have doubled their lead when Leon Osman found himself in space 10 yards out, but put his effort wide.

Stoke rarely troubled Everton in the first period, Steven N'Zonzi coming closest from a corner, but his header was straight at Tim Howard.

Pulis' half-time talk clearly worked as his side came out with much more purpose after the break and levelled seven minutes after the restart.

Shawcross sent a long ball forward and Kenwyne Jones rose highest to power a header past Howard for his first goal since the opening day of the season. He had a golden chance to get another just two minutes later after rounding Howard, but his effort rebounded off the post.

In a feisty encounter, Marouane Fellaini should have been sent off for a headbutt on Shawcross but the incident was missed by all the officials.

Stoke substitutes Cameron Jerome and Peter Crouch combined well but couldn't beat Howard and Pienaar broke free in the final minute but shot agonisingly wide.
