The Blues sent out a virtually full-strength squad, barring John Terry, who stayed in London and Frank Lampard, who came off the bench after 62 minutes.

Despite dominating the first half, Rafael Benitez's side went into the break only 1-0 up courtesy of Mata's cool-as-ice finish after excellent build-up play involving Oscar and Eden Hazard.

After the interval, however, the west Londoners turned on the style and began to pass the ball around with swagger.

Fernando Torres got his team's second which was just reward for their dominance - although his shot took a lucky deflection.

A Darvin Chavez own-goal completed the scoring, with Mata instrumental in the move leading up to it.

And the playmaker is loving the experience of playing in the showpiece while expressing his side's desire to go all the way.

"I'm so glad today, the way that we won," the 24-year-old told BBC Sport.

"For us it is a very important tournament, we want to win this trophy, to be world champions and on Sunday we will try our best to win.

"I'm very happy with my goal. In the second half we started really well, we were really focused on scoring more goals and we did it with Fernando and the own goal, so 3-1 is a good result for us."

Looking ahead to Sunday's final, the Spain international added: "We have confidence but we know that Corinthians are a really good team, one of the best in South America.

"They have a lot of supporters here with them but we have our supporters as well and it will be a football party and hopefully we will win."
