Barry was one of four City players cautioned at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester United pulled off a last-gasp 3-2 win to open up a six-point lead at the Premier League summit.
The England international has been charged with using "abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official" after the game.
He has until 4pm on Thursday to decide whether to contest the charge, and will miss Saturday's trip to Newcastle if it sticks.
