The Manchester derby proved to be a thrilling end-to-end encounter where City came from two goals down to tie up the match, only for it to be snatched away by Van Persie's deflected free-kick in stoppage time.
Wayne Rooney scored United's other two goals, and the Dutchman believes his side had control of most of the match.
"We had a really good start, because of Wayne's two really good, clinical finishes," Van Persie said after the match.
"We were in control but City always come back. But it's a really special way to end this game, with the three points in a really dramatic way."
